Radical Child Raising & What Schools Can Be

Topics for study & discussion will include history & philosophy of pre-K-12 Grade "free schools," democratic governance with youth, adult/youth roles & partnerships, "hidden" curriculum, unschooling, & youth liberation/empowerment. The philosophies & practices of Second Foundation School (the Twin Cities' oldest/only K-12 democratic, independent school) will be examined as a local example of a thriving youth-centered community.

Facilitator's experience:
I am a CoDirector at Second Foundation School & have been a part of the SFS community since 1986. I have been a parent since 1989 & fully embrace the concept of raising free children! I have or currently work with other youth-focused organizations including: District 202, YouthLink, East Side Arts Council, & St. Paul Parks Dept. I have a Masters Degree in Human Development: Educational Psychology & a BA in Holistic Education. I am passionate about this subject & look forward to real discussion on kids & school.
