Course description: Do you avoid volunteering to write the press release? Or do you just wish you could write a really good guest editorial? Over four class sessions, we'll talk about and practice the basics of activist writing--how to prepare a press release, an informative flyer, a short news article or a letter to the editor. We'll discuss the problems we've run into, read some helpful advice, spend time writing and critique each others' work. Good writing may be just one tool for social change--the best-written press release in the world won't bring the revolution--but it's a tool anyone can learn to use. We're better writers when we work together.
Anyone who wants more writing practice is welcome, no matter how much or how little experience you have--trust us, your experience as a reader and a writer will be welcome.
