First class people missed

Hi everyone of the Mexican Social Movements:

This is your teacher Gabriel Johnson-Ortiz. Last night we had the first class. The class will be held Sunday nights, from 7-9 PM, at Macalester Carnigie rm. 204. Only 3 people showed up, of the 15 originally signed up for the class. I originally was going to show the documentary "Zapatista", but couldn't find my DVD copy. I try to rent or find a copy it for next class. I instead showed the documentary of "the Victims of the War in Chiapas", talking about the war in Chiapas, by the Mexican army and the paramilitaries. I will bring it to the next class, for folks who want to see it, they can loan it from me. I also pass out an personal article of a friend and former coworker of my mother of her experience in Acteal. Your assigment for next class would be reading these 3 articles:
1) An essay that Subcomandante Marcos, the spokeman person of the Zapatistas, that shows people how people live in Chiapas, Mexico. This article was written in August 1992, but not released until January 27, 1994. Here is the website to read it:

2) The first and the second Declarations of the Lacandon jungle:

Hope people can come prepared to have lively discussing of these articles. And hope to see everyone next week. I will this week do an outline of the class, so everyone knows what we are going to be looking at for each class period.

Hasta la victoria siempre (Until victory always),
Gabriel Johnson-Ortiz
