Sustainable Activism

Course description: We’ll examine some of the factors which make it possible for people to work for social change for years on end. The class will consider practical topics through interactive exercises. Reading load will be light. Participants are requested to attend every class (there are only five of them!)
The subjects we’ll address include setting priorities for your social activism based on how you think social change happens; financial sustainability; surviving group life and conflicts; dealing with the reality of unequal amounts of privilege; and sustaining hope and emotional health.
Class Time: Saturday mornings, 10:00 to 12:30
Class Dates: April 4th and ending May 2nd
Childcare: We plan to have childcare for young children available for parents who wish to take this class!

What experience do you bring to this class? Betsy and Celia worked together on organizing protests of the Republican National Convention. Both have coordinated food co-ops; both have been active in the global justice movement. Both have lived in community; and both have trained and facilitated many groups before.
