Viewpoints: Time and Space and Everyday Things Revealed

The Viewpoints are a technique of improvisation based on a vocabulary that breaks down movement into aspects of time and space. This vocabulary is explored via a series of exercises originally developed by choreographer Mary Overlie in the 1970’s and later adapted for the stage by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau.
While the Viewpoints often prove invaluable to stage performers in many disciplines this course will focus on introducing these techniques to folks who have little to no performing experience. Emphasis will be placed on establishing Viewpoints vocabulary within our own group with no public performance deadline whatsoever. Each session will be held with the goal of developing mindful awareness to the space and time created during the course of our meetings.
Participants must be able to run, jump, lie on the floor and get back up again. Not necessarily in that order. Viewpoints requires bare feet and comfortable clothing that one may move about in with ease.
