Description 

"The Business of Dressmaking- Custom Clothing at the Turn of the Century" a presentation and diologue with Linda McShannock, textiles curator at Mn Historical Society.

This will be #4 in the MNfashion Sewing Co-op seminar series exploring the ways our fashion community can collaborate to create an ethical and sustainable local industry as we grow.

Linda McShannock will provide an in depth view into the lives and work of women in the garment industry during industrialization in Minnesota. We are excited to get some historical perspective on local textile and garment production and their social and economic ramifications.

Keywords/topics for this session- custom dressmaking, piecework, needle working trades, industrialization, capitalism, immigration, women in the labor movement, unions, class and gendered labor division in garment production, fashion history............
