Namibia: One of Africa's Newest Nations

In the first half of the workshop, we examine Namibian history, geography, politics, and culture from the perspective of Namibian activists, freedom fighters, politicians, teachers, and students. During the second half, we learn from successful Namibian initiatives such as the Penduka Cooperative for Women, Habitat Research and Development Centre, Basic Income Grant, and Young Achievers Empowerment Program.

Facilitator's experience:
In 2010, Anna Knaeble was named one of twelve US educators to participate in a Fulbright-Hays Curriculum Development Travel Seminar in Namibia. Under the guidance of the Center for Global Education at Augsburg College, Anna Knaeble worked collaboratively to produce authentic curriculum for US secondary teachers and learners. Ms. Knaeble currently works as a Data Coach for St. Paul Public Schools. She has seven years of teaching experience as English and French Teacher in Marseille, France and Columbia Heights, Minnesota. She holds a Master of Art Degree in Teaching as well as a Specialist Degree in Education Leadership.
